Do you ever get involved in the production of events?
Are you “the responsible person” at community-led events?
Do you ever worry about your duties under Health and Safety legislation?
If the answer to all these questions is 'Yes', then read on.

The Events Production Industry Safety Passport scheme is aimed specifically at those involved in the production of “Live” events. Based on the Safety Pass Alliance core content for major industries, such as manufacturing, food, petrochemical and quarrying, the passport provides a nationally accredited safety standard.
The Production Services Association (PSA) has worked with a wide variety of industry experts including leading event organisers, safety professionals, company owners and production managers to develop the Sector Content.
The content deals with issues such as manual handling, workplace transport and slips, trips and falls in more detail and with more events-specific reference. In short, it deals with those hazards that present themselves more frequently in this sector.
It is a means of demonstrating, in practical terms, an employers intent to comply with their duties under the Management of H&S at Work Act and their commitment to safe working practices. It is a way of reducing risk and raising awareness amongst staff and employees. The passport can be used as an integral part of safety management policy clearly setting out what is expected of event staff in the realm of H&S.
Some of the leading figures in the industry have given their backing to the scheme and over 500 passports have now been issued. The NUS is training several hundred students involved in the entertainment sector.
Isn’t it time you thought about it?

Put together for those new to events and as a checklist for professionals, giving a simple path through the maze of rules, regulations and bureaucracy surrounding events.
A step by step format, with checklists, which will take readers through Event Planning, Risk Assessment, Events Safety and Stewards Briefings, the guide reduces thousands of pages of officialese to 21 pages in laymans language. Weblinks are provided taking you to official websites giving fuller details, for those interested in pursuing them, BUT the basis of safe event management is explained.
It can be purchased, in printed form, from Showmaster at a cost of £20 inc. p&p. Local Authorities, charities and umbrella voluntary organisations can access licensed printing arrangements, have corporatised and bespoke versions produced for them and gain bulk discounts by negotiation.
The guide will provide the foundation of training courses which Showmaster will start to deliver to community event organisers early in 2007. It is planned that these will include elements of the Event Industry Safety Passport scheme, be supported by Showmaster's teaching qualifications and draw on more than thirty years experience in the industry.
